oops now in week 24 and up 20 pounds
Somehow I miscounted and thought I was on week 24 last week. Guess I was a week off so now I'm in week 24! Also had my official weigh in and I'm up 20 pounds. I was told to only gain about 25 pounds during the entire pregnancy and I still have over 3 months to go. It's been hard to control myself with Thanksgiving and now Christmas. There are cookies everywhere and everyone shoves food in a pregnant lady's face. I can't be rude and say no now can I?
The nursery in painted, we just have to put up the borders and get some furniture for the room. Word of advice painting your room half one color half another (horizontally) is a lot harder than it sounds. I takes forever to get a nice straight line across the entire room. But it's going to be very cute when it's done. We chose an almond color for the bottom and a tan color for the top so very gender neutral - trying to have Mike not kill me. I just have to buy different color drapes or bedding and viola the room will be ready for a girl if we have another kid (and it happens to be a girl).
This baby is also very sensitive to sugar. Anytime I eat something sweet he starts kicking and moving around. Before the ultrasound I had a doughnut and we went crazy!!

Week 24
We have entered week 24. Still feeling good, just getting bigger by the day and there are more and more of my pre-pregnancy clothes I can't fit into.
Mike has started to paint the nursery! I went out and bought letters yesterday so we can spell his name out on the wall. Also looking at baby shower invites. I think mine will be homemade, I looked on the Internet but couldn't find anything I liked more than what I mocked up myself. My sister is going to love that.
So we went over to my parents house for my nephew's 8th bday yesterday. Again three little kids running made Mike rethink having 2 kids. Then we went over to my sister's house to look at more baby stuff and what do you know they bought her 2 yr old a drum set. Not a plastic drum set no a real mini drum set. OMG it was so loud!! They are going to regret it soon. Can you imagine 6am and Bradley yelling 1-2-3-4 (his sister taught him that) and then bang bang bang for the rest of the day. Our kid is going to play with puzzles!!

Baby Boy Nguyen
We are having a mini Mike. I am in so much trouble!! I think I can handle one, I don't know how my mother-in-law handled three. I have lots of pictures and when I have a chance I'll post the pictures. We opted to not get a picture with his little wee wee. Seeing it on screen was confirmation enough we didn't need a picture of it. It's amazing all of the things you can see during an ultrasound. You can see every bone in his spine, the feet, the brain, his heart pumping. I was tearing up watching it.
Mike can live out his dream of taking the baby snowboarding and golfing and coaching the soccer team. I'll just have to get a really good camera so I can take a lot of action shots.
Sorry for everyone who made bets that the baby was going to be a girl. I was so sure it was going to be a girl I put a trip on it. Golf weekend here we come.
And on another note, we were watching football with his brothers on Sunday and they have all decided that they like the name D'Brickashaw. Matt has even started a facebook page and named it Team D'Brickashaw. I'm going to say veto.

My maternity pants
Lisa made fun of my maternity jeans. I don't care they are soooo comfortable. Lot's of leg room lots of tummy room so what if I look like a middle aged mom. I will be a middle aged mom soon.
Plus it seems like I'll be growing into the pants soon. I am up another 4 pounds.
I don't know where all this weight is going. I honestly don't know how I'm 129 pounds.

Baby Obama Nguyen
Don't worry we are not naming our child Obama. Mike was visiting with his grandpa yesterday when his grandpa suggested that we name our child after the President, "what's his name".
We have said that we'd let the parents choose the middle name which will likely be Vietnamese. Mike's mom's suggestion Dung. We are not going to have a child running around with a middle name of Dung even though it's pronounced differently in Vietnamese. I have a cousin name Ho, someone should have thought about it a little before signing the birth certificate.

Pregnancy Line
Every pregnant lady has this dark line running from her belly button down. I have now discovered I too have a pregnancy line. Very strange it just seemed to appear one day. No gradual darkening, no warning what so ever. One day it wasn't there, the next day it is.
Wonder what's next.

4 more lbs
I'm up another 4 pounds since last time I went to the doctors office. So maybe my coworker was right about me getting soft. Damn you comfortable elastic maternity pants - can't tell I'm getting bigger because the pants are getting bigger with me!
So Mike and I made a bet about whether it's going to be a boy or girl. I think the baby is going to be a girl he thinks his family only has boys. So we bet that if we have a girl I get my babymoon. If the baby is a boy then he gets to go on a golf trip, of course I get to come too. So really it's win win for me. So far all signs point to a girl!! I know I made fun of the wives tales about how you can tell but since it's working in my favor I like it. So my mom said if the baby is on the right side it will be a girl. Guess what the doctor found the baby on my right side yesterday. Also if the baby has a fast heart beat 140 or more then it will likely be a girl. Guess what we were at 140 yesterday!! I will love this baby either way but really I just want my babymoon.

Getting Soft
So news is getting out that we are having a baby. Today one of my coworkers came up to me and congratulated me on the good news. She then went on to say that she noticed I was getting a little "soft" and was wondering if I was pregnant.
Hmm soft huh? As oppose to my rock hard body before? Very interesting. Wonder how many other ways people are going to find to tell me they've noticed I've gained weight.
On another note, I baby sat my 2 and half year old nephew yesterday. Oh my god was it tiring! Apparently he loves football and demanded we watch football all day. Then he proceeded to get into a huddle and tackled himself. We then went to the AT&T store where he had to touch every phone. When we went to Target he put on every helmet he could find. At home he found every ball we own and began throwing them. And finally, when the boys came home from golf he decided to run in circles for 20 minutes. All of this without his afternoon nap. When Julie was his age she was content with her Barbie and a coloring book.

We're out
So I have finally told all of my coworkers that we are expecting a baby. For some reason I really liked keeping the secret and couldn't bring myself to tell everyone. But now I've told my coworkers so the news is out. Plus I'm to the point now where I really can't hide it anymore.

How to tell if it's a boy or a girl
So you know how everyone tells you they can figure out if the baby is going to be a boy or a girl? And you can debunk every single one of them. Some are pretty common and there are some new one's I've recently heard.
I've heard:
If you have morning sickness it's going to be a girl. Well that one was immediately debunked b/c my sister had morning sickness with her son and not her daughter.
Carrying the baby high means it's going to be a boy. Depending on who? I have a really short torso so there is only one spot this baby is going to sit. Right in the middle.
The ring theory. Love this one. If you put a ring over your belly and it swings back and forth it's a boy in circles it's a girl.
My brother-in-law's dad said he could tell by looking at my thumb. He told me I was going to have a girl but then told Mike that his first born was going to be a boy. Not sure how to take that.
My mom told me a new one today. She said that if you can feel the baby on your right side it's a girl the left side it's a boy. Well I can't feel anything right now but I'll be sure to push things to the right from now on.
I'm just going to wait for the ultrasound.

Super Human Smelling Ability
I have now acquired a super human ability to smell stuff. And let me tell you it is not a super power I want. My office is right next to the room where we keep the mini fridge and microwave. Normally the smell of people heating up their lean cuisines and left over spaghetti does not bother me, but now that I can smell chicken from across a restaurant the combination of reheated Chinese food, canned soup and various microwavable dinners is too much for me to handle. Thank god I have a door. Hopefully people don't think I'm being anti-social.
On a random note, I saw that my mother-in-law is on facebook. I would like to know who created a facebook page for Mo Nguyen? Do I "friend" my mother0in-law? What is facebook etiquette?

Food Aversions
We might have to check scallops off the list of things I can eat. Rather than food cravings, I have had some really bad food aversions. I can no longer stand the smell of chicken, which sucks because I used to eat chicken almost every day. The other day a friend and I were at lunch and I had to leave the restaurant because the person at the next table was eating chicken and I kept gagging. I was eating scallops yesterday the first one was delicious then I tried to eat a second one and could barely get it down.
I may have to go vegetarian before the end of the pregnancy. Poor Mike.

2nd Trimester
We are officially in the 2nd trimester! I now have a noticeable baby bump, at least I think it's pretty noticeable. People who don't know the news yet are probably questioning if I'm pregnant or just putting on extra weight. I dare anyone to ask!!
I've noticed myself rubbing my belly when I'm sitting on the couch. Mike just looks over and laughs at me. It seems like my belly has really taken shape this weekend. Mike and I were being lazy on the couch yesterday and I said to him that we won't be able to do this very much longer. No more lazy Sundays for awhile.
We are still deciding who gets to take the late shift and the morning shift. I think he should take both. The man doesn't sleep anyways so he's not missing out on anything. I get cranky if I don't get at least 8 hours of sleep.

Bathroom Frequency
OMG can I pee anymore? I've always had a small bladder but this is ridiculous, I am going to the bathroom every hour now! I can't even make it through the night without having to go at least three times.
I know I shouldn't complain too much since I'm not experiencing morning sickness, but I am going to anyways.

Maternity Clothes
I bought my first two pairs of maternity pants this weekend. They are fabulous!! The most comfortable pants I've owned in a long time. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. I may not go back. Who wants the hassle and constrictions of buttons and zippers when you can have the ease and comfort of elastic?
Please be a good friend and tell me no when I start eyeing moo moos.

Walking
Apparently I am a heavy walker. I was at my mother-in-law's house for banh xeo (yummy!!) and her friends commented that I walked too heavy and that it wasn't good for the baby. Odd because my mom told me I was a heavy walker a couple of weeks ago. Who knew?

Caffeine Free
I have been officially caffine free for 5 weeks! I know, I know I didn't think I could do it either. The first couple of days was awful. The first day I didn't drink coffee I had to attend a meeting on how transportation projects are determined in the state, we stared at a power point presentation for 3 hours. I couldn't concentrate and wanted to fall over I was so tired.
By day three I honestly didn't think I could make it. That's when I decided maybe I could trick myself by buying decaf coffee, wrong!! It's nice to have something warm to drink in the morning but there's no tricking my body who has had daily cups of coffee since high school. It's still a little difficult to get going in the morning but lucky for Mike I am not a raging b*tch that everyone though I would be without caffeine.
I do look forward to that first cup of coffee after having the baby though. Sacrifices you have to make, I guess this is one of many I will have to make in the future. Going to miss a world where its all about me.

First Doctor Visit
I had my first official baby related doctor appointment today. I was given a clean bill of health which is a relief due to some early scares. The doctor was able to find the baby's heartbeat, unfortunately for me, I could not tell the difference between its heartbeat and mine.
The doctor said they estimate that I am 10 weeks and 2 days along and that the due date is around April 10. I had lots of questions really because everyone keeps telling me what I can and cannot eat and can and cannot do. According to the doctor, everything in moderation so please stop telling me that I can't eat this or that.
I have also been given the go ahead to exercise. Since my mom demanded I "take it easy" my daily routine consists of going to work, coming home and napping for an hour, eating dinner and then sitting on the couch for the rest of the evening. This has made for a very restless camper.
I am now up 2 pounds and was told that I should gain somewhere between 20-25 pounds throughout the pregnancy. When asked when do people start gaining weight the doctor said it depends some people don't gain any weight the first trimester, uh no, no good for me gotta stop indulging in the cupcakes.

First Blog
This is our first official blog!
As of today we are 10 weeks along. Dr. says that we are due approximately April 11! And fortunately, we've had a pretty easy going for trimester. No morning sickness, no weird cravings, except for the fact that this kid seems to want to be a vegetarian. I seem to want to nap every day but really that isn't anything new, except now Mike can't give me a hard time about it.
Sadly I am beginning to outgrow my pants. This maybe be partially due to me sitting on the couch every day for the last month "taking it easy" as my mom's instructed. My coworker showed me a nice trick with a rubber band that will buy me a couple more weeks before I start breaking out the maternity wear.
Can't wait till week 20 to find out the sex of the baby. I tried starting a baby registry but found out it's pretty hard to register for things if you don't know the sex of the baby. Gender neutral things are pretty boring, you can only do so much cream. And don't tell me green is gender neutral, it's a boy color.
Alright I'm done for now.
